When our Aunt Jenny asked us to come with her to the Tin Cap's opening game we (Dever and I) were more than happy to oblige. We were awed when we walked into the brand-new stadium and beheld the glory of the Tin Caps. (In honor of Fort Wayne, please obtain from saying this name with bewilderment.) Yes, you read this right, the new name for our minor league baseball team is the Tin Caps. If you ask me, (that is to say, Maria) they're not just minor, they've hit rock bottom. Fun Fact: the Tin Cap's video screen is the second largest in minor league baseball. But, they are doing very well, in fact, they are undefeated, and they only have had two games at home. After the two F-16 jets flew over head the game started. Fun Fact: the name Tin Cap comes from the legendary Johnny Appleseed, who, legend has it, wore a kettle on his head, hence the name, Tin Cap. It all started with 20 ceremonial pitches, the first one thrown by former Mayor Grahm Richard, and the last one thrown by current Mayor Tom Henry. Fun Fact: Quote from the Journal Gazette "The loudest roar came after the pitch by Jake Patton, 4-year-old son of Travis Patton, who won the team naming contest. As the Tin Caps wanted to impress the crowd of 8,208 people (the largest ever attendance for a professional baseball game in Fort Wayne) they beat Dayton 7-0. Fans were there till 10:30 when the post-game fireworks finally finished. Fun Fact: The Tin Caps president is named Mike Nutter, what a coincidence (upon Maria's request). I think that the brand-new stadium lived up to the name I found on The Journal Gazette the next morning " Downtown Jewel Shines!"

What a waste of space. The Memorial Stadium was perfectly fine! And they have to knock it down! I think the space that Parkview Stadium was built on should have been a water park! That would have been great! But NO! They have to go and RENAME the team, and make a whole other stadium, which costed 1. 7 million dollars! WASTE WASTE WASTE!
ReplyDeleteThat comment was written by Maria. The Stadium is really nice

Glad you had fun-- though a water park might have been a lot of fun. (Course, that would've cost plenty too...)
ReplyDeletehey sydney--we have already been kicked out of the new stadium. the doors were open so we walked in to peak and then we were kicked out.
ReplyDeletei think the space should have been used for a better jumbo sized skate park!!!
